After Force India went back ahead of Williams on the Constructors’ Championship standings, Sergio Perez claimed that he put in a special effort to claim the team's only points.
Perez, who started P17 following his eight-place grid penalty, went on a 36-lap stint on the soft tyre compound to give himself a fighting chance to break into the top ten at the Marina Bay Street Circuit on Sunday.
The strategy proved fruitful as the Mexican scored Force India's only points of the race after team-mate Nico Hulkenberg crashed out seconds after the green light.
With Williams’ Valtteri Bottas retiring and Felipe Massa’s P12 result, Perez was delighted with the way the weekend turned out considering the circumstances.
"It was a special effort from myself," said the 26-year-old, who finished P8 at the Singapore Grand Prix.
"I think it’s my one of my best performances in Formula One, to manage these soft tyres for 36 laps.
"I’m so pleased with how the race went, that we managed to secure the points. We're ahead of Williams, which we needed to do. It was a very difficult race out there but we did an extremely good job.
"Looking back, I think we did a big mistake because we gave up the position to Esteban [Gutierrez] and that compromised our race, as I was stuck behind him and that prevented me from doing much progress.
"We effectively did one stop if you consider that we stopped on the opening lap for the soft tyre. It was a very long race. We did not think we would manage it until the end but we did."
