British rider Bradley Smith has been ruled out of the next two MotoGP races and has been replaced by World Superbikes rider Alex Lowes.
Smith suffered knee ligament damage during a crash in practice for the Oschersleben 8 Hours event last weekend and will now miss his home GP at Silverstone, as well the San Marino GP at Misano a week later.
Lowes, who currently sits 11th in the World Superbikes standings and was part of Yamaha's victorious factory entry at the Suzuka 8 Hours this year, recently tested for Tech3 at the post-Czech GP test.
A statement from Smith's Tech3 team said: "The Tech3 team wants to thank the Yamaha Official World Superbike Team for their co-operation in allowing Lowes to ride and would also like to wish Bradley Smith a quick and full recovery."
As for Smith, he will be leaving Tech3 at the end of the current season to join KTM's new MotoGP programme.
