The evolution of the racing helmet

Head protection in motor racing has come a long way. From the soft cloth helmets of the early 1900s to the modern gadget-laden helmets of today, racer safety has never been better.

Donut Media have produced a great video charting the evolution of racing helmets, and it makes for quite a story. While the first helmets were implemented to protect drivers from dirt, racers are now able to communicate with their teams, take on fluids and race in the knowledge that their heads are well protected.
