The Grillini Racing Team has announced that Swiss rider Dominic Schmitter will be joining them ahead of the 2016 World Superbike Championship.
Schmitter made his international debut in 2015 as part of the Go Eleven team in the World Supersport championship, but is now set to make the step up to WSBK.
“I'm happy to be a part of Grillini Racing Team for 2016,” Schmitter said. “It is great to make this happen. I have always dreamed about being in World Superbike. I will be one of the youngest riders in the field and the first Swiss rider to do a full season.
“I know we are competing against factory teams and that it won't be easy for me to score championship points. But a race is a race and I am a fighter! I will do my maximum for the team, the sponsors and the people who believe in me. My goal is to achieve some top 15 placings and to become a permanent fixture in the World Superbike Championship. I am fully motivated and would like to thank Andrea Grillini for this opportunity.
“I have seen Dominic racing in World Supersport and I have been impressed by his determination and by his maturity at every race,” added eponymous owner Andrea Grillini. “I think that the WorldSBK season will be very challenging for him, but I also think that his determination and his desire to do well will help him score good results.”
Grillini has yet to confirm which bike it will use in 2016, having operated on Kawasaki and BMW machinery in recent years.
