Aleix Espargaro may be forced to miss the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday after he injured his hands following a crash on Friday.
The Suzuki rider crashed at Turn 8 during the second free practice session and while he got back on his bike, he only managed one more lap before heading to the clinica mobile to see to his injuries.
Espargaro has been diagnosed with a fractured ring finger on his left hand and a sprained joint in his right thumb.
The Spaniard will undergo further examination on Saturday morning before a call is made on whether he will be fit enough to race on Sunday.
“The crash generated a small fracture and he will need some physiotherapy this evening, so let’s wait to see how he will feel in the night and then tomorrow morning and together we will decide what to do,” Suzuki boss Davide Brivio told reporters.
Espargaro currently sits in 11th place on the MotoGP standings and has failed to secure a podium finish this season. His best result came at the Grand Prix of the Americas and Spanish Grand Prix, where he finished in fifth place.
