Haryanto upbeat ahead of British GP

Formula 1 Manor Racing team driver Rio Haryanto was happy to have out-qualified his ‘much fancied’ team-mate Pascal Wehrlein at Silverstone on Saturday for the fifth time in ten races.

Although starting 19th on the grid with a time of 1:33.098 in Sunday’s British Grand Prix, the Indonesian qualified a place ahead of Wehrlein on 1:33.151 both well behind Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton in pole with a time of 1:29.287.

Despite his lowly qualifying place, Haryanto believes Manor’s overall pace over many laps will see him moving up the field as the race progresses.

In an interview after qualifying, Haryanto said for him personally he was quite happy with his overall performance.

“I’m quite happy with that performance,” said Haryanto. “We always knew that this track would be more difficult for us, but personally, for me, it was a strong and consistent lap.

“We managed to beat the Sauber, but we’re not as close to Renault as we would like. Hopefully, we will be a little stronger in the race tomorrow, as our long run pace is better.”
