Honda Team rider Michael van der Mark says that, after a successful one-day private test at Misano in early June, the team was looking forward to this weekend’s eighth round of the Superbike World Championship in San Marino.
The Dutchman and teammate Nicky Hayden have looked good at times this season, with Van der Mark sixth in the WSBK rider standings on 141 points and Hayden seventh just behind with 136 points, both well behind Kawasaki’s Jonathan Rea at the top on 293 points.

At last year’s event, Van der Mark left Misano with two top 10 finishes and said in an interview on his own website that he was once again feeling good on the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade SP machine.
“After the test in Misano I found a good feeling with my Fireblade again,” said Van der Mark. “We definitely needed that test and I want to thank the team and Honda for setting it up.
“It’s time for us to put a good weekend together and get back where we belong, as we have been missing the podium for a few rounds now.
“It’s the second half of the season now so every race is crucial for the final classification and we cannot afford ourselves just OK results anymore.
“I’m really looking forward to the weekend now and hopefully we’ll be able to get what we’re here for,” he added.
