Jorge Lorenzo is furious at Andrea Iannone for ending his race at the Catalunya Grand Prix by clipping his rear and causing both to crash and then not having the decency to apologise afterwards.
The pair collided at Turn 10 midway through the Barcelona race, as Iannone made a wildly ambitious lunge to the inside and hit the back of Lorenzo’s bike, causing both to tumble.
Lorenzo was chasing down the eventual race-winner Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez at the time, but the crash ended the Yamaha rider’s afternoon and allowed Marquez to leapfrog him to the top of the world championship table.
Speaking after the incident, Lorenzo could not hide his indignation.
"I don't know if he braked too late, or didn't brake knowing someone was in front of him, and finally I feel a big impact and I was lying on the ground," Lorenzo said.
"First I was scared I had broken my hip or my collarbone, but after a minute I saw it was only the [shock of the] impact.
"You can make a mistake, but you have to go and say 'sorry' and 'it was my fault'. Instead of that, he just asked me ‘what happened to your bike?’
"That was the worst [thing] for me, he didn't say sorry and he didn't understand it was his mistake. He is making too many mistakes that put other riders at risk.
"Dani [Pedrosa] made a mistake at Austin, but [at least] he apologised to [Andrea] Dovizioso."
Iannone will start the next race at Assen from last position on the grid as punishment for causing the incident.
