MotoGP Movistar Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo said he was not worried about being second quickest in FP2 behind Ducati’s Andrea Iannone at Mugello on Friday.
Lorenzo finished second by almost six-tenths behind Iannone but is confident that on Sunday in the race he will match anyone for pace.
“It’s the best track here for Ducati and they made a lot of kilometres here over the last year, so they know all the secrets of this track,” said Lorenzo.
“But the lap time from [Andrea] Iannone was with a new tyre and he improved five or six tenths with this extra grip that a new tyre gives you. With our pace, we are quite similar, even though I have some laps in ’48 low.
“Also [Marc] Marquez is very close so I think the three of us are the fastest ones for pace but then Andrea used the new tyre and this give him some extra tenths.”

Lorenzo added that he feels if he can keep up the pace in the latter stages of the race on Sunday when the tyres start to wear he can match the Ducati’s fast pace.
“Obviously, I would like to have the same top speed as Ducati, but Yamaha has our own strong points and we have to take profit of this and lose as much as possible our weak points at this track,” he said.
“Our bike is a nice bike to keep a constant pace during the race, because the race is very long. If we cannot take some distance in the last sector, in the last corner, with Iannone or [Andrea] Dovizioso in the race it’s possible that we can be in the third position at the end of the straight.
“But the race is very long and it’s important to have a good pace when the tyres start to drop and I think we’ll be happy on Sunday afternoon.”
