Rast to stand in for Da Costa at Berlin ePrix

Rene Rast will make his Formula E debut this weekend with Team Aguri confirming he will replace Antonio Felix da Costa, who will be on DTM duty.

The seat opened up as regular driver Da Costa will race for the factory BMW team in Austria this weekend, but it was initially thought that Adam Carroll from Northern Ireland would be his replacement with the team even notifying the FIA about the change.

However, the deal fell through and they approached the 29-year-old Rust.

"Driving a Formula E car on the streets of Berlin will be something very special and I’d like to thank the team for this great opportunity. I have been in the simulator for the last few days to get a good feel for the car," he said.

"While these cars have their own unique demands, I am confident that I can get up to speed quickly and use my experience in energy management to deliver a strong result for the team."

The German competes in the LMP2 programme in the World Endurance Championship for G-Drive, while he raced for Audi in the LMP1 class in last year's Le Mans 24-Hours.

The last time he competed in single-seater racing was at the start of his motor racing career in Formula BMW in Germany in 2003-04.
