Max Verstappen became the youngest ever grand prix winner history when he pipped Ferrari duo Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel to the Spanish Grand Prix title.
Breaking Vettel’s record as the youngest ever F1 race winner, the young Dutchman drove a composed and unhinged race around the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya as he prevented Raikkonen on numerous occasions of completing an overtake.
Red Bull and Ferrari’s chances to win a race greatly improved after favourites Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton crashed their Mercedes’ into each other on Turn 2.
The incident opened up the race for teams that were not quite at the same pace as the Silver Arrows.
Verstappen, though, praised his team for their quick thinking and also credited his father Jos for his help in achieving his first ever grand prix victory.

“To win straight away in the first race is an amazing feeling,” the 18-year-old revealed.
“It was a great race, I have to say thank you to the team for giving me such an amazing car.
“From a very young age my dad helped me a lot, to achieve this is amazing. This race felt like an endurance race to me – especially the last 10 laps.
“I couldn’t believe I was leading the race. I can’t believe it.”
There was a wonderful moment the post-race press conference that summed up Verstappen’s youth and exuberance.
A reporter asked: “Max, who helped you more, yourself, your father, Dr Marko? I’m asking in which way they helped you.”
Vertsappen: I think from when I was four until 16, I think it was mainly my Dad.
Vettel: What happened in the first four years?
Vertsappen: I was just living.
Vettel: Your mother…
Vertsappen: Yeah, my Mum did a lot of work there, yeah. In the end she brought me into the world so… she did a very good job. Yeah, from there, from 16 onwards I think it was a bit of a combination: my Dad, Dr Marko of course. They gave me the opportunity to get into Formula One so it’s great. From there on, you get prepared, physically prepared, you get a great chance at Toro Rosso and then they moved me up to Red Bull, so I think it’s a bit of a combination.
