MotoGP Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi feels that the switch from Bridgestone to Michelin tyres for 2016 is helping him with quicker lap times.
On Saturday, Rossi secured his first pole position of the season for the Spanish Grand Prix. This will be the third time that Rossi starts on the front grid this season.
In an interview, Rossi said that after struggling to get pole positions in 2015 he feels things are going a lot better in that regard now due to the Michelin tyres.
“We worked a lot because last year we struggled during qualifying,” Rossi said.
“This year, with the Michelin tyres, I feel better and I already started on the front row two times, but pole position is something different, especially here in Jerez.”
Rossi, who will be joined on the front row by team-mate Jorge Lorenzo and Honda’s Marc Márquez, acknowledges Sunday’s race at Jerez will be tough.
“I knew I could be competitive, but during the last races we had some problems and I made a mistake in Austin,” he said.
“We didn’t take the results we expected, so we have to start doing so now. For sure tomorrow will be very hard with Lorenzo and Márquez, but we are there and we can fight.”
