Salvador Duran believes Saturday's Formula E race in Mexico City will go a long way towards creating awareness for the environment.
Mexico City is one of the most polluted areas in the world and the zero-emission sport could send just the right message.
"I think Mexico City is one of the most polluted cities in the world," said the Team Aguri driver, who was born in the city.
"Formula E shows that we can have great sporting events without contaminating the city and I think that this is something that will change this city. We are making history and that is what this series is about."
Meanwhile, the Mexican believes he and teammate Antonio Felix da Costa have the talent and the speed to be competitive.
"Antonio was very quick in the first part of the Buenos Aires race and his speed and energy consumption were both very good," added the 30-year-old, who is yet to finish a race this season.
"We have kept working since then to improve our energy consumption and we have found many things. I think it was the right decision for us to stay with last year's powertrain."
