Rea completes Phillip Island double

Kawasaki Racing Team rider and defending world champion Jonathan Rea won Race 2 of the Superbike World Championship at Phillip Island on Sunday after winning Race 1 on Saturday.

A last lap crash by Chaz Davies on his Ducati at the Honda hairpin, that saw him slide out, gave the victory to Rea.

Tom Sykes, who was in pole position, led the race for the opening ten laps but made an error when out braking himself to drop to fourth place and then Davide Giugliano tagged the rear wheel of his Kawasaki causing Sykes to drop out of contention to seventh place.

Michael van der Mark then led the race for awhile but four laps from the end he was passed by both Rea and Davies who battled it out in front for the win.

With two laps remaining, Davies took the lead but the better straight-line speed of the Kawasaki saw him being reeled in and an attempted pass on the Honda hairpin on the last lap saw Davies take a tumble and hand the race to Rea. Davies managed to finish tenth.
