Bird grabs pole in Buenos Aires

Sam Bird topped the qualifying session at the Buenos Aires ePrix on the Puerto Madero Street Circuit on Saturday.

The Brit set a best time of 1:09.420 around the tight track to take pole position for the race later on Saturday. The pole is also DS Virgin Racing’s first in ePrix history.

“It’s our first pole so I’m delighted for the team,” the 26-year-old told the official Formula E website.

“Let’s see what happens in the race – we’re going to give it our best shot. The aim was a podium and that’s definitely a reality now.”

In second place is Nicolas Prost of Renault e.dams. The Frenchman will start alongside Bird on the grid after his 1:09.751 lap.

Antonio Felix da Costa of Team Aguri and Stephane Sarrazin of Venturi will complete the second row in third and fourth.

It was a disastrous session for championship leader Sebastian Buemi, as he spun on his 200kw lap and will start last on the grid in 18th.
