Hector Barbera put in a late effort to set the pace in the opening practice session for the Austrian round of the 2017 MotoGP season.
With unpredictable weather on the horizon, FP1 looked set to be an important session for securing Q2 spots come Saturday.
Although it was Andrea Dovizioso who topped the time sheet as the chequered flag fell on the opening session, the Ducati rider’s time was cancelled for exceeding the track limits at Turn 9.
That meant Barbera finished quickest of all with a 1:24.631 which he set on his penultimate lap.
Dovizioso was still second quickest ahead of Dani Pedrosa and Maverick Vinales.
Reigning MotoGP champ Marc Marquez was next in line with a 1:24.881 finishing ahead of Johann Zarco, Danilo Petrucci and Scott Redding.
Jorge Lorenzo and Cal Crutch low completed the top ten.
