The PGA of America announced on Tuesday that Love would take the role for the second time, three years on from captaining the US to defeat at the “Mircale at Medinah”.
Love was heavily criticised in 2012 after seeing his side collapse at the hands of a remarkable Europe comeback in the singles, despite guiding the US to a 10-6 lead after the first two days.??
The 50-year-old has already named Tom Lehmann as one of his vice-captains, and his European counterpart Clarke was pleased to see Love given a chance to make amends for that defeat.??
Speaking ahead of the Joburg Open, Clarke told Sky Sports 4: ???Davis is a very good friend of mine; we???ve been friends for a long time. We used to play a lot of practice rounds together in America and he???s a genuinely good man. I???m delighted for him.
???He had a tough time in Medinah when he had a big lead going into the Sunday, but Europe played sensational golf, got the roll on the greens and managed to win.
???Davis will be going out looking to prove his point and I???m sure the match will be played in the manner in which we both think it should be played. It???s going to be a very interesting, challenging, great week.
