Michelle Wie returns to home to Honolulu this week to compete in the LPGA Lotte Championship and the 26 year-old fancies her chances of victory.
Wie has dropped 70 spots in the world rankings to 74th since her stunning major-winning season in 2014. In seven starts this season she has made five cuts but has been unable to achieve a top-20 finish just yet.
However, she is confident all that can change this week at the Ko Olina Golf Club, a track she is all to familiar with.
“I definitely feel very comfortable here, with playing in front of a familiar crowd and on the golf course, playing at Ko Olina,” she said.
“At the same time, it is a lot of pressure. In 2014, when I came here, before that, I’d never played well here. I really took the stress really onto myself, really wanted to try too hard.
“It’s kind of what I said in 2014, it’s going to take off the pressure off myself and just have fun. Have fun playing in front of my friends and family, and really start to embrace it.”
Wie won this event in 2014.
