Oosthuizen wins in Perth

South African golfer Louis Oosthuizen shot a one-under par 71 for a one-stroke victory at the Perth International on Sunday.

Oosthuizen, who had led by three strokes going into the final round, finished with a 16-under total of 272 ahead of Alexander Levy of France in second after shooting a 66 and was followed by Australian Jason Scrivener in third after firing a 69 two strokes behind.

In a tie for fourth were American Peter Uihlein (71) and Gregory Bourdy of France (66) three behind champion Oosthuizen.

After the win, Oosthuizen said he was glad to have won for the first time in two years.

“It’s been two years since I had a win so this is massive for me going into the season.

“Hopefully, I can take a lot out of this.”

Oosthuizen’s three-shot overnight lead was quickly cut to one after a bogey on the second as Scrivener made two birdies on the first and third while Uihlein birdied the fourth. France’s Romain Wattel also had an eagle on the third.

On the seventh Scrivener had a brief share of the lead but a few minutes later Oosthuizen made a putt to get back in front and then birdied the eighth to get to 16-under.

On the back nine, Scrivener, Uihlein and Wattel faded and Oosthuizen birdies the 12th hole to lead by four shots.

Frenchman Levy hit a great approach shot which led to him birding the 18th for a 66.

Oosthuizen had a two-shot lead to protect going into the 18th hole but even though he bogeyed he still won by a shot.
