Lahiri one stroke off the pace

India’s Anirban Lahiri is just one shot off the leaders following the opening round of the Waste Management Phoenix Open on Thursday.

Starting on the back nine, the world number 49 was off to a flyer and was three under after five holes.

Bogeys on the 15th and first would set him back, but four more gains would see Lahiri card a five under 66, just one stroke behind the leading trio of Rickie Fowler, Hideki Matsuyama and Shane Lowry.

“I’m quite happy with the way I started,” the 28-year-old told asiantour.com.

“Obviously got off to a good, solid start and found a lot of greens starting out. I felt a little bit disappointed with how I drove it.

“I feel like I could have probably, you know, played a couple of shots better. But the iron play was really good.  I felt really solid on the greens.”

Lahiri will be looking to make amends for his missed cut last week at the Farmers Insurance Open.
