Ha Na Jang carded an opening 65 to take a three-shot lead after the first round of the Coates Golf Championship.
Sitting at seven-under, Jang is three clear of Gee Chun, Sei Young Kim, Kim Kaufman, Candie Kung, Jodi Ewart Shadoff and Kelly Tan. World number one Lydia Ko and Lexi Thompson are part of a group of 10 players a further shot back on three-under.
Jang created history last week when she became the first golfer on the LPGA Tour to register an albatross on a par-four, and she was hitting the headlines once more on Wednesday in Florida.
The South Korean’s bogey-free round sees her streak without a bogey extend to 54 holes as she looks to go one better than in 2015 when she finished as a runner-up at Golden Ocala.
“Oh, it’s perfect, no bogeys. I like it,” she told LPGA.com of her run. “So today is like more, I don’t want to think about that it’s windy and don’t play for a score. I don’t see the scoreboards. I just keep going just simple, simple, simple.”
Rookie Gee Chun was making her Tour debut on Wednesday, and she did so in fine style as she notched up four birdies and went without a bogey on the day.
Ko got off to a slow start, taking the turn in one-over, but four birdies on the back nine saw the New Zealander post a 69.
