21:28 It’s been a thrilling Italian Grand Prix, worthy of the great venue it’s hosted at!  Please do join us in two weeks’ time, when the best drivers in the world race around the streets of Singapore under lights.  We’ll be back to cover that particular spectacle for you, and until then, take it easy.  Bye for a bit.

21:25 Joy also for Ricciardo, who made up 12 places to finish P4, while youngsters Ocon and Stroll manage P6 and P7 after both delivering solid drives.

21:22 Around the Parabolica, down the straight, the crowd may be red, but the winner is silver!  Lewis Hamilton wins at Monza!  Bottas follows him home in P2, with Vettel a distant third!

21:18 Into the final few laps now, no surprises expected.

21:16 All-silver affair out front…

21:12 Verstappen has turned up the heat and has rapidly climbed from P13 to P10.

21:07 The moment Ricciardo passed Raikkonen.  The Red Bull man was fearless and measured his attempt to perfection.

21:03 Ricciardo is putting his new supersofts to good use and is creeping up on Raikkonen…he lunges up the inside into Turn 1!  He’s through!  P4 for the Honey Badger!  The Australian’s race engineer has instructed him to bridge the gap to Vettel, who is 11 seconds clear of the Red Bull.  Plenty of action so far this afternoon.

20:57 Oh dear, there’s a slow McLaren out on circuit…it’s Vandoorne!  The Belgian pits, and he’s off to the showers. The other McLaren of Alonso is in P15.  Meanwhile, Ricciardo, who started on softs, taken on supersofts and will sprint to the end.  The Australian splits Ocon and Raikkonen and is 3 seconds behind the Red Finn in P5.

20:52 Vettel is first of the leaders to pit.  The German takes on softs and is all set to go to the end.  Hamilton swiftly follows suit and also takes on softs, too.  Bottas completes the set and the stop goes smoothly.

20:47 Here’s the current order, the top five are yet to pit.

20:44 Raikkonen has spent several laps eyeing up Ocon and manages to take the Force India around the outside into Turn 1.  Ocon tries to come back at him into the second chicane, but the veteran Finn is wise to the move and holds on to his position.

20:39 Ocon and Raikkonen are working their way up the order after pitting, and they both sweep past Vandoorne through Curve Grande.  Stroll follows suit.  The Honey Badger is also doing his best to move forwards, he’s currently P4 but hasn’t pitted.

20:34 Palmer has been slapped with a five-second penalty for leaving the circuit while being overtaken by Alonso and subsequently failing to give the place back.  Meanwhile, there’s no shortage of velocity around the Temple of Speed…

20:29 Raikkonen has decided that he’s had enough of Stroll’s rear wing and pits for softs.  Can Ferrari make the undercut work for their man?  He’s joined by Ocon, and sharp work by Force India ensure their man stays ahead of Raikkonen! Stroll pits to complete the set, a slow stop by Williams!  That allows Ocon through, and Raikkonen as well!

20:24 Things have settled down for the moment, but Ocon and Stroll are keeping a close eye on each other…

20:19 Bottas and Vettel have been busy…

20:16 Vettel is past Stroll and is P4, with Ocon less than a second up the road.  The Mercedes pair are making hay out front.  Here’s a picture of Verstappen’s tyre disaster.  The Dutchman sets a new fastest lap, but that will be scant consolation for the man in P19.  Vettel has done the business on Ocon and is P3.

20:11 Bottas has made his way past Stroll and is P3, as Vettel passes Raikkonen.  Verstappen is attacking Massa,! Contact!  The Red Bull man has a puncture! Oh no!  It was going so well! Bottas hasn’t wasted any time and is past Ocon for P2! Verstappen is in the pits, he’s back out after a slow stop.

20:05 Red, Red, Red, Red, Red, Black! A clean start from all as Hamilton holds the lead!  Raikkonen passes Bottas and is up to P4! Ocon is past Stroll for P2! Meanwhile, Verstappen has charged up to P8! Bottas passes Raikkone through Parabolica and takes back P4!

20:00 Here comes the formation lap, Hamilton leads them around…

19:55 And here, just for some final confirmation, is the weather!

19:50 The tifosi have certainly done The Temple of Speed proud by turning up in such numbers.  Hopefully the drivers do their bit!

19:45 15 minutes to the action!  There have been so many grid penalties applied for this race that a reminder of the full starting order is probably warranted:

19:40 Let’s talk about the start for a moment.  Things can often get hairy around the first chicane at Monza; you have a long straight followed by two narrow corners.  It’s really important to stay out of trouble through there.  After that, however, the drivers still have to deal with Curve Grande and yet another chicane, by which time things should hopefully have settled.  The first objective for any (sensible) driver then, is to get off the line well, find a good position for Turn One, and to take matters from there.  Easier said than done, perhaps.

19:35 On a positive note, the weather is a little better than yesterday…

19:30 30 minutes to go.  Both of our title protagonists have seen their fair share of success in Monza.  Will one of them add to their tally, or is there a surprise in store?

19:25 Grid penalties for both Red Bulls will see Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo start in P13 and P16, respectively.  The Bulls were racy yesterday in the wet, but how much progress can they make today?

19:20 Coming to the home heroes, Ferrari suffered a truly mediocre Qualifying session, which sees them lock out the third row of the grid.

19: 15 Valtteri Bottas starts P4 in the other Mercedes.  The Finn was, to be frank, miles off the pace set by Hamilton, and will hope to make amends today.

19:10 Hamilton will be kept company near the front by youngsters Lance Stroll (P2) and Esteban Ocon (P3).  The pair originally qualified in P4 and P5, but due to grid penalties handed to Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo, they move closer to  Hamilton.  How well can they hang on to such lofty starting positions?

19:05 Starting off with yesterday, Lewis Hamilton obliterated the field to claim pole position number 69 in a delayed, wet session.  The Briton thus surpasses the previous record of 68 pole positions, and joins the list of Farina, Fangio, Clark, Senna and Schumacher, each of whom have, at some point, held the record for most pole positions in Formula 1.
