Sebastian Vettel admits Mercedes “in a league of their own” after F1 free practice

Sebastian Vettel

Mercedes dominated much of free practice on Friday ahead of the F1 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. With the domination of the Silver Arrows, comes concern for their rivals Ferrari.

Despite a decent start, Sebastian Vettel finished in fifth place during FP2, almost a full second behind Lewis Hamilton who was electric throughout.

And the German is clearly concerned as well, as the main race in Melbourne inches closer.

“I think they looked really quick,” Vettel explained, as was reported by Crash.

“I don’t know if it was just us struggling a bit, but as a matter of fact they were in a league of their own. What was all that bullshit about with them being out of shape and so on? I didn’t understand that to be honest. So it was a bit of a surprise.”

“Maybe everyone else was struggling and then we can turn it around, but they looked very strong and much stronger than they claimed before the weekend.”

“I think for us we are not where we would like to be – not in terms of lap time but in terms of car feel and handling. “

If there does indeed lie a problem with the Ferrari, race engineers employed with the Prancing Horse hardly have any time to get it right before the action commences this weekend with Qualifying on Saturday.
