Uruguay unveil final 23-man World Cup squad

Uruguay have announced their World Cup squad with Gaston Ramirez left out of the final group heading to Russia.

The Sampdoria midfielder joins Nicolas Lodeiro and Fede Valverde in not making the cut for Oscar Tabarez’s 23-man squad.

Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez are two of the biggest names in the side, while there are seven players remaining from the side that reached the semi-finals in South Africa 2010 and 11 from Brazil 2014.

Uruguay, who last beat the Czech Republic and Wales in the China Cup tournament, face Uzbekistan in their final warm-up match for the World Cup where they are in Group A with hosts Russia, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
