Manchester City and Brazil midfielder Fernandinho says that compatriot Neymar is on the road to full fitness, and will be a major weapon at the World Cup in Russia.
The Paris Saint-Germain superstar has been sidelined since February after undergoing surgery for a foot injury, although he is said to be close to making his return to full action before the Russia tournament.
Fernandinho, who suffered a similar injury to the 26-year-old earlier in his career, revealed the recovery process is a tough one but there are signs his teammate is once again nearing peak condition.
He told reporters: “This kind of injury Neymar had is a little bit difficult, I can tell because I had it too.
“It aches now and then…the process is a little bit complex. But, when you watch the moves he’s making during the trainings, the way he is training, I see him very well and he’s getting his confidence back, that’s so important.
“He’s so audacious, trying to dribble the defences, he’s not afraid. That’s the first step for him to be 100 per cent confident again.
“And we want him to be fully fit as soon as possible, till our first match in the World Cup. I have no doubt he’s a player who will make a big difference for our team.”
Selecao are in Group E for the global showpiece in Russia with Switzerland, Costa Rica and Serbia and are expected to be favourites to finish first in the standings.
