Reports: Juventus give up on Barcelona-bound defender & go after Bundesliga star to fill Andrea Barzagli’s boots

Jerome Boateng is reportedly eyeing a move away from Bavarian giants, Bayern Munich. With Juventus sizing up a big money move for the German defender, rumours suggest that he shall depart in the summer window.

According to Italian sports daily Tuttosport (via Bild), Juventus are quite keen on bringing the defender to Turin.

With Andrea Barzagli’s retirement on the anvil, the club has identified Boateng to fill his boots. The Old Lady were initially keen on Matthijs de Ligt, but the Dutch defender is rumoured to have set his mind on moving to Barcelona.

If reports are to be believed, Boateng has apparently been eyeing a move away from the German giants ever since PSG came calling last season. The move did not go through because the clubs failed to come to a settlement over the transfer fee.

However, it was enough to pique the ex-German international’s interest in a move to another league. With Juve expressing an interest in the defender, Boateng is reportedly quite eager to move to the Serie A champions, especially since it offers him a chance to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.

Boateng was rumoured to be quite enraged by the breakdown in transfer talks last season and it seems likely that he will push for a transfer with greater vigour come summer.

Fox Sports Asia Probability Rating: 3.5/5; Boateng is quite likely to leave Bayern after years of distinguished service. Further, he is behind Hummels and Sule in the pecking order which has meant a reduced role in the club for the German. Having endured a difficult season, in which he has also been axed by the national team, the 30-year-old will look to resurrect his career in another league.
