Reports: Real Madrid youngster to join Ajax as replacement for Barcelona-bound Frenkie de Jong

David Neres scores against Real Madrid

Barcelona recently concluded a deal to sign AFC Ajax star Frenkie de Jong. The Dutchman cost the Blaugrana a reported €75 Million and has agreed to join them in July 2019. Meanwhile, the Eredivisie giants themselves have a task at hand – to replace De Jong – which they have decided to do with a Real Madrid youngster.

According to reports from De Telegraaf, Ajax are interested in signing Real Madrid youngster Martin Odegaard. The Norwegian star is spending the current season on loan at Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem, where his performances have caught the eye of the Ajax hierarchy.

However, sporting director Marc Overmars was initially hesitant to move for Odegaard due to a price tag of over €20 Million. Nevertheless, the report claims that the Spanish giants have now offered an opening to Overmars and team in order to discuss a potential transfer.

Meanwhile, Odegaard was part of the Vitesse squad that played Ajax on Matchday 32 of the Dutch Eredivisie. The Norwegian youngster played the full ninety-minutes as his side went down four-two to the league leaders.

FOX Sports Asia Probability Rating: 3/5; Previous reports have linked Odegaard with a move to Ajax, albeit on a temporary deal. Los Blancos, themselves, might be looking to loan out the youngster for another season before making a decision regarding his future.
