North London outfit Arsenal are reportedly interested in Brazilian winger Gabriel Martinelli. The 17-year-old Ituano player has been shredding opposition teams apart in the Campeonato Paulista, Sao Paulo’s state league.
According to reports, the teenager is quick and skilful with the ability to play on both wings or as a second striker. The Gunners are rumoured to have been scouting the winger for some time now, with manager Unai Emery taking a particular liking to the boy. Valued at roughly €10 million; the sum is loose change for a club of Arsenal’s riches.
In a major boost to the club’s hopes of landing the young Brazilian starlet, reports have emerged that Gabriel is in the process of finalising an Italian passport which would make it easier for him to gain the necessary permits required to play in the Premier League.
‘Top four in Arsenal’s hands’ – Emery
According to the Brazilian news outlet, UOL a host of Premier League clubs have courted the winger, but his agent suggests that it was Arsenal who made the firmest moves for the player. Further, reports reveal that the club is due to unveil the teenager in June when he turns 18.
The young lad has already been completed two spells on trial at Manchester United but the Old Trafford club opted against continuing his spell in Manchester. A whole host of Brazilian clubs were also interested in signing the latest hot-shot from Brazil, but the winger it seems was keen to make a move to Europe at the earliest.
Fox Sports Asia Probability Rating: 3/5; Seems like a done deal. However stray rumours suggest other clubs might look to scupper this whole arrangement, but that’s probably idle talk. Would have granted this a more commendable 4/5, but consider us to be the transfer rumour equivalent of L’Equipe’s player ratings: stingy and always doubtful till we actually see it in flesh.
