Reports: Manchester United looking to sign Chelsea full back on a cut price deal

Have the wheels fallen off for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Man United?

Manchester United are set for a mass exodus in the summer, according to several reports. As a result, the Red Devils are expecting a lot of new arrivals, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer begins to give shape to his team. And if reports are to be believed, one of those new arrivals might be brought in from Premier League rivals Chelsea!

According to English news publication Daily Mail, Manchester United are looking to sign Chelsea youngster Reece James next summer. James, 19, is currently spending the season on loan at Championship side Wigan Athletic, where his displays have put him on the Red Devils’ radar.

Manchester United are set to lose right back Antonio Valencia in the summer. The Ecuadorian’s departure will leave the Premier League giants short-handed in that position, with Diego Dalot the only option available. One name which has popped up as a potential replacement for Valencia is that of James, who is expected to cost the Old Trafford side around £15 Million.

However, the Red Devils face a difficult task at hand in luring the youngster from Chelsea. The Blues have seemingly decided to involve James in the first team next season, owing to his good performances. Moreover, with a potential transfer ban around the corner, the West London side may look to hold on to their players rather than ship them away.

FOX Sports Asia Probability Rating: 2/5; Superb performances in the Championship this season have put Reece James in Chelsea’s plans for the future if we go by prior reports. Moreover, with an impending transfer ban, the Blues would want to hold on to James to provide extra cover in the right-back position.

However, a promise of a starting role could tempt James to make the switch to Manchester United. Nevertheless, as it stands, it looks increasingly likely that the English youngster will be wearing blue next season, instead of red.
