Barcelona are set to go through a rebuilding phase in the near future, with many of the current first team stars entering into their thirties. Looking towards the future, the Blaugrana have already signed Jean-Clair Todibo and Frenkie de Jong and are in the hunt for more. However, President Josep Maria Bartomeu has now personally ruled out a move for one key target.
Speaking to Televisión Espanõla, Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu revealed that there are no plans for the club to pursue Antoine Griezmann. The Frenchman has been linked to the Blaugrana for the past two windows, but Bartomeu confirmed that his name was not on the table.
“[Griezmann] is an Atletico Madrid player and he has a contract [with them],” Bartomeu told TVE (via Marca).
“I like that the great players are in Spain because he gives value to La Liga Santander, for example, to get sponsors.
“If Griezmann wanted to come, he would have to talk to the coaches, but his name is not on the table.
“There is a lot of speculation in the press, but Griezmann is not on the table and he has not called Barcelona.”
Continuing with the interview, Bartomeu also reiterated his desire to keep two players heavily linked with a move away – Ivan Rakitic and Samuel Umtiti.
“[Rakitic] has a contract and we are very happy,” he added.
“I had a conversation with him in the summer and I told him that we could talk to improve his contract.
“We have not talked because of the calendar and because it’s not easy due to the balance of wages, but we will talk with him.
“He’s an indisputable player and he becomes better every year.
“[As for Umtiti] we renewed him before the World Cup; he has four years left on his contract and there is no Umtiti issue.”
Rakitic has been linked with a move to Inter Milan in the past while Umtiti is said to be drawing interest from the Manchester clubs. However, both now look set to remain with Barcelona with the club President confirming their future.
