Reports: Reason why Ander Herrera is leaving Manchester United to join PSG

After five years at Manchester United, Ander Herrera’s time at Old Trafford is on its last legs. As he prepares to move to French giants PSG as a free agent, more details have surfaced about his imminent departure.

Simon Peach, chief football writer at the Press Association took to twitter to reveal why contract negotiations with Manchester United came to a grinding halt. According to Peach, Herrera was initially quite keen on extending his stay at Manchester. The United top brass however did not respond with equal vigour; instead Peach writes that all went quiet on that front for “three months around the start of the year”.

Peach reports further that Ole Gunnar Soljskaer arrival brought a fresh urgency to tie Herrera to a new contract, thereby confirming his stay at United. However it “looks to have been too little, too late”.

Herrera, who was already mulling over two offers when contract negotiations with United initially went cold, was not too keen this time around. Although United were willing to fork out big money to secure his services- thought to be in the ballpark of  £200,000 a week- it is thought that the Spaniard isn’t as willing to entertain their offer anymore.

Having shunned United’s advances, Herrera reportedly decided to enter into a pre-contract agreement with PSG. The terms of this arrangement is still unknown, but it is expected that the Basque Country boy will eventually display his wares at the Parc des Princes.
