Atletico Madrid were undone by Cristiano Ronaldo once again in the UEFA Champions League after the Portuguese scored a hattrick to knock them out. And to pile on the misery, reports suggest that one Atleti star is rethinking about his future post the Champions League debacle and may end up joining Barcelona.
French news outlet L’Equipe has revealed that Antoine Griezmann is considering his Atletico Madrid future after his side were eliminated in the UEFA Champions League yet again. The French star was courted by FC Barcelona prior to the 2018 FIFA World Cup only for him to remain with his current club.
According to the report, Atletico Madrid’s dip in form has triggered Antoine Griezmann to rethink about his future. The former Real Sociedad star had chosen to remain in Madrid and partake in an ambitious project, which involved bringing in high-quality players such as Thomas Lemar and Rodri. However, it has turned out to be less than impressive, leaving Griezmann to think about his future.
Barcelona, meanwhile, had chased the player in the summer of 2018, following a good year with Atletico Madrid. However, on that occasion, the Ballon d’Or nominee chose to remain with his club.
The report also states that there are signs that the Blaugrana will return for Griezmann next summer, with the futures of players such as Phillipe Coutinho still uncertain.
