Hoedt had a medical in the Italian capital on Wednesday before signing for the Biancoceleste outfit, whom he will join on a free transfer when his current contract with AZ expires at the end of June.
A statement from Lazio read: “From July 1, Wesley Hoedt will wear the colours of the number one club in Rome, welcome Wes!”
The 20-year-old, a product of AZ’s youth academy, has scored one goal in 12 league appearances for the Eredivisie club this season.
The Holland Under-20 international is excited at the prospect of playing in Serie A.
Hoedt told Lazio Style Radio on Wednesday: “I am really happy to have signed for Lazio.
“From July I will be a Lazio player. I hope I can do well and help my team-mates.
“I can’t wait to start playing for Lazio. July can’t come soon enough. In the meantime, I will watch all of Lazio’s games hoping that the team can qualify for the Champions League.”
Lazio also announced on Wednesday they had signed Brazilian defender Mauricio Dos Santos Nascimento on a six-month loan deal from Sporting Lisbon.
The Romans will have the option to make the 26-year-old’s move permanent at the end of the season for 2,65million euros (#2m).
Mauricio will undergo a medical on Thursday in Rome.
Lazio are fifth in Serie A, two points adrift of third-place Napoli, who hold the last Champions League qualifying spot.
