Garcia rejected China move

The Espanyol captain claimed he was offered a two-year contract worth 20million euro from Chinese League One club Hebei Fortune FC.

“The captain cannot abandon ship,” Garcia told his club’s official website. “This is my home and I am happy here.

“It was a very tempting offer and the financial aspect was mouth-watering but in the end it was not going to be.

“My heart told me that I could not leave and that is why I turned it down.

“I’ve received many letters from fans thanking me for staying.”

The former Spain forward has been impressive for the Barcelona-based club this season, scoring nine goals and setting up six more in 22 league appearances to help Espanyol climb to eighth in La Liga.

Espanyol also have a chance to clinch silverware this season as they have made it to semi-finals of the Copa del Rey.

“We could reach the final of the Copa,” the 31-year-old said. “I could not leave the club thinking I could miss that.

“This is not something that happens every year.

“I would also like to return to play in the national team and I can only achieve that through hard work.”

Garcia was on target in last weekend’s 2-0 triumph at Malaga that handed Espanyol their first win in five games.

Espanyol travel to Madrid having won just two of their 11 away games this season.

However, Sergio Gonzalez’s men will fancy their chances of taking a positive result at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez stadium.

Getafe have not beaten Espanyol at home in the league since 2006.

Quique Sanchez Flores’ men lost 1-0 at Valencia last time out, their second defeat in their last three league games.

Getafe are 15th in the standings, just four points clear of the drop zone.

“This a very important game for us,” Getafe defender Naldo said. “We want to return to winning ways and try to reach the 40-point mark as soon as possible.

“We were a little bit down after the game at Valencia, where we should have come away with a point.

“On Friday, we hope we can play well and clinch a victory.”
