Ashley Young will remain at Manchester United beyond the current campaign after the club took up the option to extend his contract by a further 12 months.
The 32-year-old has reinvented himself over the past few seasons after struggling for game-time initially under Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.
Young joined the Red Devils as a winger from Aston Villa in 2011, but like club captain Antonio Valencia, he has made a successful transition to full-back.
The England international’s performances this term has pushed recognised left-back Luke Shaw to the fringes of the first team, while earning him a recall to the national team in 2017 after a four-year absence.
The Watford youth product has made 29 appearances across all competitions for Mourinho’s side in 2017/18 and will be happy to have his future sorted out, after the extension he signed in 2015 had less than four month left to run.
