Thibaut Courtois has handed Chelsea a major boost after declaring that he expects to pen a new contract at Stamford Bridge.
Courtois is about to enter the final 18 months of his Chelsea deal and told the Spanish media earlier this week that he was “attracted” by a return to La Liga.
The Belgium international spent three years on loan at Atletico and has been linked with a move to Real, while his children live in the Spanish capital.
But although Courtois is taking his time over penning a new contract, he doesn’t see any barrier towards remaining at Chelsea.
“My private situation is always gnawing a little bit, but for the rest I’m feeling very good at Chelsea,” he said.
“I don’t see any reason why I won’t sign a new deal. I just want to consider all options. Everything has to be right.
“It’s not the right moment to make hasty decisions. Not for Chelsea, not for me.
“Within a couple of months we will sit around the table again and talk openly. There’s no pressure, apart from the media. The clubs knows that too.
“Basically I want an agreement before the end of the season. Normally with Chelsea.”
