Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger heaped praise on playmaker Mesut Ozil after his heroics in the 5-0 victory over Huddersfield Town on Wednesday night.
The Germany international provided assists for Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez before finding the back of the net himself, all within only four minutes, to give the Gunners a 4-0 lead following Alexandre Lacazette’s early opener. Giroud bagged his brace in the 87th minute to cap off the dominant display.
Wenger was delighted with Ozil’s performance and also praised the 29-year-old’s fighting spirit.
“Ozil is a great football player, but he shows as well at the moment he can fight,” Wenger told the press, according to the Metro.
“We started well but then we lost our focus and our passing and allowed them to come back into the game.
“Then we got the second goal and suddenly everyone played with more freedom and more technical quality – then Mesut Ozil showed what he can do.”
He added: “I was not pleased with everything. we started well but lost the urgency in our a game a bit.
“We gave them one or two chances. But once we scored the second we played with freedom, drive and creativity.”
