Pep praises Sterling, jibes Wenger

Pep Guardiola Arsene Wenger

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has ribbed Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger while praising the performance of Raheem Sterling in the win over Huddersfield Town.

City came back from a goal down at the Terriers on Sunday with Sergio Aguero converting from the spot to equalise after Sterling won the penalty for the visitors. Sterling went on to score a late winner for City as they won 2-1.

Guardiola was full of praise for Sterling, who has now scored more goals this season than in any previous campaigns and aimed a jibe at Wenger in the process. The Gunners boss previously commented that Sterling is a player who 'dives well'.

“Two clear penalties. Maybe Arsene will say that is a penalty,” Guardiola said after the game, according to Football365.

“The penalty is more than clear. I’m impressed. He’s young and he can improve. If he wants to learn then we’ll be there to help him.

“He’s a winning player,” the Spaniard added. “Before he made good actions but now he is winning games.

“We’re in November and he’s already broken the record. He’s top but not only with goals.”
