Shelvey: We need goals from everywhere

Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey believes all the players need to help improve the Magpies' goalscoring record in the Premier League this season.

Rafa Benitez's charges have only managed 11 goals in 12 league games this campaign and bagged a measly two goals in their last four fixtures. The team's main strikers, Joselu and Dwight Gayle, have netted only three goals between them.

However, instead of blaming the strikeforce, Shelvey has stated that everyone should be chipping in with goals to help the team improve in the final third.

"The players are a lot more tactically aware in this league, and it’s a lot harder than the Championship," said the 25-year-old, according to the Shields Gazette.

"You probably get a lot more time on the ball, but the defenders are in better positions, so it’s a lot harder to create chances and score chances.

"At the end of the day, we’re doing all right. We probably just need to score a few more goals," the England international added. "It isn’t just down to the attacking players, either. You need to chip in with goals from all over the pitch.

"That’s something we’ll keep working on, on the training pitch, and hopefully it’ll pay off."
