Full report

After a low-key start, Watford create the first chance of the game as Cleverley drilled a shot goalward, only for Nathan Ake to get in a good block.

Heurelho Gomes then did well to keep out Ryan Fraser's near-post shot ahead of a 17th minute chance for Nathaniel Chalobah, who was needlessly called up for offsides.

Benik Afobe did well to hold off Miguel Britos but failed to get a proper connection to his shot, to allow Gomes to collect.

Richarlison headed a 38th minute corner well over the goal before the same player turned well in the box before skiing his close-range shot.

Steve Cook's header at the start of the second half failed to test Gomes before Nordin Amrabat dragged a 49th minute chance wide.

Bournemouth were looking to get the ball to feet to play, but were exposed on 57 minutes when Chalobah was able to race clean through on goal, although, when one on one with Asmir Begovic, he failed to beat the onrushing keeper.

Chalobah fired off target on the hour mark before a good quick break forward from Watford on 65 minutes saw Begovic beat away an Andre Gray shot at his near post.

With the game maturing, the away side started to take more and more control, with Richarlison forcing Harry Arter to block at his near post from a corner.

Cook then did well to stifle the Brazilian after a mazy run, but the Hornets' spell of pressure finally paid off, as Richarlison scored his first goal for his new club, after getting to a Gray cross before Begovic at his near post.

Joshua King saw a 81st minute header fly over the goal as Bournemouth looked to get back into this tie, that was over as a contest when substitute Capoue drilled in an excellent shot from outside the box into the left side of Begovic's goal, with 86 minutes played.
