Full Report

Swansea, playing their first match of the season at home, nearly got off to a dream start when Jordan Ayew charged down Bailly’s attempted clearance in the third minute before chipping the ball behind David de Gea, only for his effort to hit the post.

New United recruit Romelu Lukaku nearly fashioned a chance on the counter in the fourth minute but could only shoot over the bar.

The away team nearly scored in the ninth minute when Juan Mata crossed the ball into the Swansea box from a free-kick only for Phil Jones’ header to hit the post.

Pogba struggled in the first half and received a yellow for clattering into Tom Carroll. The French midfielder was lucky not to get his marching orders minutes later after he went in late against Martin Olsson.

Swansea went close in the 34th minute after Kyle Bartley rose to meet a corner but his header drifted wide.

The hosts then gifted Marcus Rashford a chance when Mawson’s miscued header put the England striker through on goal but his chip was comfortably saved by Fabianski.

United opened the scoring just before half-time when Pogba met Mata’s corner. His header came off the post but Bailly followed up to score his first ever goal for the club.

The second half got off to a slow start with United dominating possession but struggling to create chances.

In the 56th minute, Nemanja Matic set Rashford loose, who cut inside and shot straight at Fabianski.

In the 61st minute the Swans nearly equalised after Carroll drilled the ball into the box and found Tammy Abraham in space but the striker’s header went over the bar.

In the 73rd minute United won a free-kick but Pogba could only hit the ball high and wide.

Jose Mourinho's side extended their lead in the 80th minute after some good play between Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan put Lukaku one-on-one with Fabianski and the Belgian made no mistake, putting the ball in the right corner past the Swans stopper.

Only a minute later, Pogba put United further ahead with a good finish after Mkhitaryan did very well to release him.

And with the game winding, down substitute Martial took on the Swansea defence after cutting in from the left and slotted his finish away calmly to give United an unassailable 4-0 lead.
