Manchester City have failed in an £18million move to land former Manchester United defender Jonny Evans from Premier League rivals West Brom.
Widespread reports in the UK have indicated that City have been pursuing Evans for several weeks, but West Brom have rejected two bids for the centre-half.
Evans moved to the Hawthorns in 2015 after then United manager Louis van Gaal decided that the Northern Ireland international was not in his plans.
But ever since his switch, the 29-year-old has been gaining admirers from elsewhere in the Premier League.
Arsenal were interested in signing Evans 12 months ago, while Leicester have also been on the trail of the defender. Both were told that he was not for sale.
But City boast the biggest pockets of any of their Premier League rivals, with Pep Guardiola confirming last month that he was in the market for another centre-half.
Eliaquim Mangala is currently Guardiola’s fourth choice centre-half, but the French international has no long-term future at City.
