Everton are on the verge on splashing out £45 million for Swansea City’s Icelandic magician Gylfi Sigurdsson.
The two clubs agreed a fee on Tuesday with the midfield player set to complete his move to Merseyside in the next day or so.
Given the size of the fee, many fans and pundits across the country will be questioning how the player is worth that much and whether it’s just the latest example of Premier League largesse when it comes to transfer fees.
But if you look at the fine print, or rather Sigurdsson’s stats, then you may change your mind and think that in fact it’s a bargain, and wonder why a bigger club hasn’t come in for the talented 27-year old.
Check out these numbers:
5 – The number of goals he Scored against the EPL’s top six last season. Only Jamie Vardy with six scored more.
7 – Sigurdsson has scored more free-kicks than any other player since his Premier League debut in 2011
8 – The number of assists Sigurdsson provided from dead ball situations last season, more than any other Premier League player
29 – With 29 assists Sigurdsson is also Swansea’s most prolific creator of Premier League goals
34 – Sigurdsson, with 34 goals, is Swansea’s top scorer in the Premier League
