Sunderland goalkeeping coach Adrian Tucker has praised Jordan Pickford's mental strength and has backed him to become England's first-choice goalkeeper.
Pickford became the most expensive English goalkeeper last week when he made the £30 million move from the Black Cats to Everton, and Tucker believes the 23-year-old has what it takes to justify the price tag.
Tucker watched Pickford play for Bradford in League One while on loan in 2015 and was impressed by the young 'keeper's bravery and composure under pressure.
Tucker told The Sun: “The game was only five minutes in when a cross came in and he got clattered by one of Yeovil’s strikers. He got up straight away, shook it off and did not show he was hurt. I thought to myself, ‘You’ll do for me, son’.
“He showed me back then his mental strength. Another challenge came in minutes later and again he dealt with it. Nothing fazes him.
“The mental side of the game is probably his biggest strength.”
He added: “He has the potential to be England’s number one.”
