Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho will not contest the results of his failed drugs test and will in all likelihood not play for the Reds again this season.
It is understood the 26-year-old Frenchman tested positive for a type of fat-burning drug.
He had until Tuesday to request a test of his B sample, but has opted not to.
Sakho and Liverpool have agreed not to select him while Uefa’s investigation into the matter continues. To date, no disciplinary proceedings have been opened against Sakho.
The club declined to comment as the matter is confidential.
“At this moment, there is really nothing else to say. What they are all doing is collecting information to clear the situation and we have to wait,” said Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.
Sakho could face up to a six-month ban, which was what his Liverpool team-mate Kolo Toure received after a positive test for a weight-loss drug.
A similar punishment would see the Frenchman miss Euro 2016 in his home country.
