Liverpool release squad number changes for next season

Alisson embraces Liverpool team-mate Fabinho

Liverpool’s Brazilian keeper, Alisson Becker has opted to ditch the unorthodox numbering scheme of modern football. Instead, he has opted to wear the traditional no.1 shirt for Liverpool in the coming season.

The club website reports that the shot-stopper/deepest-lying playmaker will ditch the unlucky no.13 and inherit Loris Karius’ vacant no.1 shirt.

Signed on from AS Roma, the fleet-footed goalie has helped sort out the shambles that was Liverpool’s defence. Along with Virgil Van Dijk, the eccentric keeper may go down as one of their more important signings in the recent past.

‘Liverpool played Man Utd when they were in much better form’ – Klopp

As Liverpool pit their wits on two fronts- in the Premier League and in the European Cup- the goalkeeper has made several crucial interventions over the season, most notably against Napoli in a tense tie at Anfield.

The goalkeeper’s strip for next season is decked out in black with solid gold trimmings and patches of gold across the jersey. The Merseyside club is more keen on a different shade, however.

Battling out against Manchester City in the league and two-legs away from a second consecutive Champions League final appearance, the Reds will be keen on seeing more of silver when they come to the end of the season.
