Liverpool’s title tilt is set to move into an eerie realm as Chelsea pay them a visit at Anfield later tonight – Sunday, 14th April. If memories of their previous title skirmish still persist, then Steven Gerrard’s infamous slip cannot be far behind.
On a crisp April afternoon, five summers back, a febrile Anfield was brought to its knees when club icon and captain, Stevie G miscontrolled an innocuous pass before slithering calamitously to hand Demba Ba an open run at goal. The Reds never really recovered from that remarkable collapse, contriving to concede another before crumpling in a heap at Selhurst Park a week later.
While the ignominy of that collapse has barely subsided, Liverpool has thrust themselves into another title tussle with Manchester City. As the two sides go back and forth in a pulsating title shootout, Chelsea have appeared on the scene once again to scupper any aspirations of a 19th league title for the Merseysiders.
The Londoners haven’t quite ingratiated themselves with the Kop faithful before the tie, however. Looking to seize the narrative from their northern neighbours, the Blues have released a video on Instagram of Gerrard’s cruel misstep. The lippy caption to go with it only intensifies the build-up to the game.

As many Chelsea fans have pointed out, among those huddling around Demba Ba is one Mo Salah. In an interesting subplot, the Egyptian, who was clearly chuffed at Gerrard’s gaffe, now seeks to bring closure to that particular chapter.
This does not f*****g slip now, right boys?
