Former Manchester United striker Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez was back at Old Trafford on Saturday with West Ham United and Old Trafford faithful thanked the star for his service to the club.
The Mexican international joined United back in 2010 and soon became a fan favourite for his knack of scoring crucial goals. After spending five years with the club, which includes a year-loan stint with Real Madrid, Chicharito left for Bayer Leverkusen.
Hernandez then moved back to the Premier League in 2017 with West Ham signing up the poacher. The forward returned to Old Trafford yesterday in the London club’s 2-1 loss against United.
The Mexican international was taken off in the 73rd minute for Michail Antonio but not before the Old Trafford crowd gave him a standing ovation to which Chicharito replied with a heartfelt message on Instagram.
“It’s difficult to find the words to describe the feeling getting off the pitch today. @manchesterunited will be always a very special club for me and my family. Coming back to Old Trafford and to having a standing ovation is not easy to digest… thank you to all the Manchester United fans today for doing that,” Chicharito wrote in his message on the social media site.
“A day I will never forget. Hopefully United can get back winning premier leagues and champions leagues soon for the deserving fans, players and staff. Once again thank you very much and good luck in the future! Love you all!”
