If one looks into a list of the world’s leading names in football, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard is a name that would definitely be present in the top five.
The superstar produced yet another brilliant effort yesterday, as the Blues secured a 2-0 victory over West Ham on Monday. Both of Chelsea’s goals were scored by the Belgian.
For his first attempt of the day, Hazard executed an incredible individual run from around 30 yards in front of goal, before dancing his way past three West Ham defenders without breaking his stride. He then fired a low shot past goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski to break the deadlock. This was in the 24th minute.
In the 90th minute, he found himself at the receiving end of a neat high pass from Ross Barkley, before finishing expertly from a tight angle. Hazard’s brace hence decided the game in Chelsea’s favour.
Meanwhile, the Belgian’s double also meant that he broke Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo’s Premier League record in terms of goals scored. Ronaldo had 84 goals to his name during his time at Manchester United, while Hazard’s tally was unbeaten at 83 prior to the West Ham game.
The two goals raised Hazard’s numbers to 85, thereby eclipsing the five-time Ballon D’Or winner’s record.
Meanwhile, the 28-year old star is also subject of strong links to Real Madrid, and it is touted that he will leave Chelsea next summer. In case that is happening, Hazard will look to end his relationship with the Londoners on a good note, by finishing well with them this season.
