Neymar will have surgery on his injured foot in Brazil at the end of the week, PSG have announced.
The Paris Saint-Germain hitman fractured the fifth metatarsal of his right foot and twisted his ankle during Sunday’s 3-0 Ligue 1 win over Marseille.
The Brazil international was carried off in tears after he fell awkwardly while chasing a loose ball.
Neymar’s father and agent said on Tuesday that his son would be out for “at least six weeks” and now PSG have confirmed the 26-year old will have surgery in Brazil at the end of the week.
“After an initial treatment period of three days in line with a strict medical protocol, a joint decision has been taken between the medical staffs of both Paris Saint-Germain and the Brazil national team,” the statement read.
“In accordance with the player, it has been decided that Neymar will undergo surgery in Brazil at the end of this week.
“He will be operated on by Dr Rodrigo Lasmar, accompanied by Professor Saillant, representing PSG.”
The injury and subsequent treatment will rule Neymar out of PSG’s crucial Champions League last-16 second leg tie with Real Madrid on March 6. PSG trail 3-1 from the first leg.
